Bhutan is located in the Eastern Himalayas. It lies between latitudes 26 °N and 29°N and longitudes 88°E and 93°E. The land mostly consists of high mountains and deep valleys fed by glacial rivers running through the valley. Elevation rises from 200 meters in the southern foothills up to 7500 meters in the north. Its climatic conditions span from sub-tropical in the south to polar-type in the north. This wide spread of its elevation and different climatic conditions have led to range of biodiversity and ecosystem. The northern region is marked with Himalayan Mountains over 7000 meters and the central region has sub alpine conifer forests and broadleaf forests. The southern region has dense subtropical broadleaf forests.
